Development Update: New Residential Units at Walara

Construction of Walara’s four new two‑bedroom independent living units at Balaklava, being delivered by GJ Gardner Homes, has reached an exciting milestone, with the project now at lock‑up stage.
Significant progress has been made internally, with gyprock completed throughout the units, and kitchens and built‑in cabinetry now fully installed. These works provide a clear sense of how the homes are taking shape and reflect the quality and functionality planned for future residents.

The project is now moving into its next phase, which will focus on finishing trades internally, external works and landscaping. Planning is underway for driveways, walkways, and surrounding landscaping and fencing, which will enhance accessibility, safety, and amenity for residents.

A key feature of the development will be the creation of a communal garden space, designed to be shared by residents from both the existing independent living units and the newly constructed homes. This shared outdoor area will provide an inviting space for residents to relax, connect, and enjoy the outdoors together, supporting wellbeing and community connection.
Walara is pleased with the steady progress of the build and looks forward to providing further updates as the project nears completion. These new units represent an important addition to our independent living accommodation and reinforce our ongoing commitment to meeting local housing needs in the Balaklava community.
This project has been made possible with the support of funding through the Australian Government’s Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP). Walara acknowledges and appreciates this investment, which supports the delivery of much‑needed housing infrastructure and helps strengthen aged care and accommodation services within the Balaklava community.
